1 injured in a Union County crash late Wed. morning

(Creston, IA) – Officials with the Creston Fire Department reported on a social media post, that one person was transported to the hospital following an SUV-versus-tractor accident on Highway 34 about 1.5 miles east of Creston, late Wednesday morning.

The report said that at 11:57 a.m., Wednesday, Union County Dispatch notified the Creston Fire Department of an accident involving a tractor and an SUV on Highway 34 at the Skyline Bridge. Greater Regional Health’s Medic, the Union County Sheriff’s Office, and the Creston Police Department also responded.

Firefighters arrived and found a Ford SUV on its side with the driver – 53-year-old Matthew L. Houck, of Weldon, trapped. Houck was extricated after firefighters removed the windshield and cut the pillars and roof, while medics stabilized Houck. After removing the roof, Houck was transported by ambulance to the hospital for treatment of suspected minor injuries.

The driver of the tractor with the soybean drill – 47-year-old Chad T. Dryden, of Creston, was not injured. Damage from the collision amounted to an estimated $21,000 altogether.
