(Fort Dodge, IA) – Officials with the Fort Dodge Police Department, Friday afternoon, said one person died and another was being detained, following a fatal shooting that took place just before 2 p.m. Authorities had not released the name of the victim or the other individual, as of the time they posted their report.
Police says the Webster County Telecommunications Center received a call at around 1:52 p.m,., of a male being shot in the 1300 block of 3rd Avenue North in Fort Dodge. When officers arrived on scene, they located an adult male that had sustained a single gunshot wound. Officers rendered aid to the male until Fort Dodge Fire arrived on scene and ultimately transported the male to Unity Point-Trinity Regional Medical Center for further treatment. The male has since been pronounced deceased at the hospital.
A second male was located on scene and was detained after being identified as the shooter. Officers secured the scene and detectives with the criminal investigations division (CID) arrived to investigate. Officers and investigators located evidence and spoke with any potential witnesses.
Officers and investigators are continuing to follow up on this incident. The details about he incident and how it took place cannot be released at this time, according to the authorities, so that the integrity of the investigation is not compromised. Police determined that it was, however, an isolated incident between two parties known to each other, and there is no threat to the public. More information will be released later.
