POTTAWATTAMIE COUNTY, Iowa — Trial in the case of a man accused of killing a western Iowa woman over two decades ago, got underway Thursday, in Council Bluffs.
Robert Davis faces a charge of 2nd Degree Murder in the disappearance of 31-year-old Barbara Lenz, of Woodbine, who disappeared in 1989. Her body was never found. Davis was originally charged with first-degree murder, but the charge was downgraded.
Prosecutors said Davis was the last person to see Lenz alive, and four decades later, they’re laying out the case for a jury. Attorneys said Lenz’s disappearance was the culmination of a rocky and violent year-and-a-half-long relationship.
Scott Brown, the state of Iowa’s cold case unit prosecutor, and defense attorney Joseph Hrvol gave their opening statements, Thursday.
