(Atlantic, IA) – An event held Tuesday night at the Cass County Community Center in Atlantic, featured a total of six Republicans who are seeking either State or Federal Office. The forum was hosted by Republican groups from Cass, Adair, Audubon, Montgomery and East Pottawattamie County. The Master of Ceremonies was KJAN’s Jim Field. The candidates who introduced themselves, were asked if they “Will you commit to using our United States Constitution as the basis for all the decisions you make, on behalf of your constituents?”
The candidates for Iowa Governor who spoke during the event, included Adam Steen, Brad Sherman and Eddie Andrews, who a state panel, Wednesday morning, unanimously decided has in-fact qualified for the G-O-P Primary. The Iowa’s Secretary of State’s Office made the announcement that Andrews had survived the challenges to dozens of signatures on his nomination petitions. The panel found Andrews met the threshold of having at least 100 signatures in each of 19 different counties.
Tuesday night, prior to the panel’s announcement on Wednesday, Andrews said he was running because he loves the constitution and he loves Iowa.
Adam Steen is the former Director of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services, said he would “absolutely” uphold the Constitution.
Democrat Rob Sand is the State Auditor in Iowa who’s also running for Governor. Steen said the number one goal is to keep Sand out of office. The other Republican candidate for Governor in Iowa, is former legislator Brad Sherman, has also been a pastor for 45-years. He said he too, will “absolutely stand-up for the Constitution.”
Sherman said he believes in making Iowa the “family friendliest State in the nation,” stopping “Anti-Christian bias,” and replacing “Common Core” education with “Common sense, and restore parental rights in education.” He mentioned also eradicating human trafficking in Iowa and supporting the family farmer by eliminating Eminent Domain.
Republican State Auditor candidates Abigail Maas and Lt. Governor Chris Cournoyer spoke Tuesday night in Atlantic, about why they should get your vote. Maas said “yes,” to the Constitutional question. She said wants to change the Iowa Code to allow the audit of every entity that levies property tax dollars.
Chris Cournoyer said she she wants to take the “Politics out of the Auditor’s Office and put some integrity and innovation back in there.”
In our next segment about the Republican forum held in Atlantic, Tuesday, we’ll hear from U-S Senate candidate Jim Carlin, a representative of Ashley Hinson, who is in Washington, D-C attending to the nation’s business, and others.
