Atlantic Doctor/Medical Examiner – Elaine Berry receives a Humanitarian Award

(Des Moines, Iowa) – Iowa House District Representative Thomas Moore (R-Griswold), this week, announced in his weekly electronic newsletter, that Doctor and constituent, Dr. Elaine Berry, was presented with a Humanitarian Award earlier in the week.

Moore said “Dr. Berry is a physician certified in family medicine, hospice and palliative care, and has been a pillar of the community since she began her career at Cass Health in 1988. She currently serves as Chief Medical Officer at Cass Health.

“On Tuesday, Copic and the Iowa Medical Society recognized Dr. Berry as the2025 Copic Humanitarian Award recipient. This Award is presented annually to honor a physician for volunteer medical services and contributions to their community. The Award aims to recognize those individuals who unassumingly volunteer outside the spectrum of their day-to-day lives.

“The recipient of the Award designates a $10,000 donation from Copic to a healthcare-related nonprofit – and as this year’s award winner, Dr. Berry chose to direct her donation to support Cass Health to support the Nurse Apprenticeship program. The program is an innovative initiative to train nurses and address the healthcare workforce shortage.”

Dr. Berry has served as Cass County Medical Examiner, Medical Director of Emergency Services, and Hospice Medical Director. In these roles, she has been instrumental in disaster preparedness, EMS advocacy and mentoring future medical professionals.  Moore congratulated Dr. Berry and thanked you for her years of dedication, volunteerism, and service to Cass County!
