(Greenfield, IA) – The Board of Supervisors in Adair County, during their meeting Wednesday morning, March 25th, held a Public Hearing on the proposed FY27 Property Tax Levy, during which no comments were received. And, the Board set a Public Hearing on the FY27 Budget as 9:15-a.m. On April 20th.
The Supervisors continued their discussion with regard to a Draft Ordinance that would regulate Data Center within the County. Supervisor Jodie Hoadley said she used AI to come up with the latest version of the proposed Ordinance, and has heard from officials in Madison County after inquiring about their Ordinance. Their opinion was the decibel of sound emanating from data center needed to be adjusted. Hoadley said she’s all for hearing protection when it comes to noise – both heard and/or felt – by the presence of data centers.
She said officials in Union County were expected to enact a moratorium on data centers and possibly battery storage facilities during their March 25th meeting.
She said said the proposed facility in Union County is not a permanent structure from what she has learned. Hoadley said the County’s Attorney’s Office still has to look over the AI draft for Adair County.
The Board will continue to tweak the proposed ordinance until it is ready for official action. During their meeting on March 18th, the Adair County Board of Supervisors passed a moratorium on data centers in the county after Hoadley suggested the move, citing concerns over the amount of electricity and water that is needed to operate the centers, and how they could affect residents who live near them.
The moratorium prohibits the planning for new, proposed facilities only, not those currently under construction.
