DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Iowa agriculture officials say a majority of the quarantine zones set up around poultry farms infected with bird flu are being lifted. When bird flu was confirmed on a farm, a six-mile zone was established to control traffic. State officials said Tuesday 77 zones were set up but they are in the process of lifting 69 now. Once completed, officials say there will only be control zones remaining on six farms in Adair, Sioux and Wright counties.

Iowa lost 34 million birds to the bird flu outbreak. Officials say one of the first infected turkey farms – Brad Moline’s family farm in Manson – has restocked with new birds and Moline will host state and federal officials at a news conference on Monday to discuss the recovery process.

(Updated 5-a.m.) — A man was critically injured and a teenager died during a rollover accident Tuesday night, in Shelby County. Authorities say 17-year old Anna Eggerss, of rural Avoca, died, after being ejected from and pinned beneath an SUV that rolled over at around 8:30-p.m., west of Shelby. The driver of the SUV, 22-year old Eric Henley, of Shelby, was thrown about 60-feet from the vehicle as it rolled. He was listed in critical condition. He was taken to Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan before being flown to the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s trauma unit, in Omaha.

Officials say Henley was driving a 1999 Ford Explorer westbound on Shelby County Road F-66 near the intersection with Elmwood Road, when the vehicle topped a small hill, went out of control, swerved a few times before entering the south ditch, where it rolled several times. The accident remains under investigation.

Sheriff’s deputies were assisted at the scene by crews from the Shelby Fire Dept., Medivac Ambulance and personnel with the Iowa State Patrol.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say two men have been arrested after the remnants of a methamphetamine lab were found inside a Taco Bell in eastern Iowa. The Cedar Rapids Police Department says officers found two men outside the restaurant. One identified himself as a Taco Bell employee. Officers entered the closed restaurant and found meth lab remnants in a utility area. The men were identified as 31-year-old Christopher Adam Matous and 56-year-old Kent Jerome Duby.

Rescue crews from Shelby, Avoca, and Harlan were called to the scene of a single-vehicle rollover accident Tuesday night west of Shelby, at the intersection of F-66 and Elmwood Road. The crash was reported at around 8:30-p.m. According to dispatch reports, a man was reportedly thrown from the vehicle approximately 60-feet. A female victim of the crash was pinned under the vehicle, unconscious and not breathing. The male was transported from the scene to Myrtue Memorial Hospital, in Harlan.

Officials in Shelby County say Zinnia Road, which is shared between Shelby and Audubon Counties, is closed for a culvert replacement project. The culvert is just north of the Dale Peterson residence at 526 Zinnia, the Lanny Olson residence at 3048 Zinnia, and Brad Baylis residence at 3056 Zinnia.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday, a Massena man was arrested Monday on a Theft charge. 34-year old Aaron Lee Latus was taken into custody for Theft in the 3rd Degree. Latus was taken to the Cass County Jail where he was released today (Tuesday), on $2000 bond.

Iowa DOT District 4 Transportation Coordinator Scott Suhr, in Atlantic, provided an update today (Tuesday), on the Highway 6/7th Street construction project. Suhr says last week, the contractor completed the taper on the west end of the project and poured two intersections and completed some sidewalk work.

Plans for this week include paving from Cherry through Plum Streets tomorrow (Wednesday), which completes the pavement for the west bound lane and turn lane. Next, the contractor will begin paving the east bound lane, starting at Plum Street. They will continue paving west until they reach the west end of the project.

They will also continue pouring driveways and intersections between mainline pours.

OSAGE, Iowa (AP) — A funeral service has been scheduled for an airman of the Iowa Air National Guard who drowned while stationed for duty in Guam. The Iowa National Guard says a service for Drew Bellairs will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Osage. His burial will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis at a later date.

The 20-year-old Bellairs, of Osage, was a member of the Iowa National Guard’s 185th Air Refueling Wing based in Sioux City. He drowned on July 25 while swimming at Marbo Cave on the eastern shore of Guam. He was temporarily assigned to the 506th Expeditionary Air Refueling Squadron at Andersen Air Force Base in Guam at the time of his death.
