Bond proposals to build a replacement jail in Dallas County and new recreational facilities in Polk City have been rejected. Dallas County officials say 52 percent of voters Tuesday nixed plans to issue $16.8 million in bonds for a jail and law enforcement center. Voters in 2013 and 2014 also refused to fund a new jail and erect other county administration offices.

The bond issue in Polk City would have funded an aquatic center and 13 athletic fields. Existing baseball and softball fields at the Polk City Sports Complex would have been upgraded. Polk City voters had rejected a 2011 bond referendum to upgrade recreation facilities.

Police in Creston say a Union County woman was arrested late Tuesday morning on a warrant for Failure to Comply with her pre-trial release on original charges of two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, 3rd or subsequent offense, and Driving While Revoked. 38-year old Sara Exline, of Afton, was brought to the Union County Jail and later released on a $5,000 cash bond.

An 11-year old male from Creston was referred to Juvenile Authorities from the Law Enforcement Center, Tuesday, with regard to 4th Degree Theft charges. The boy was subsequently released to the custody of his mother.

And, a Creston resident reported to Police Tuesday that sometime between July 25th and August 1st, someone took from her residence a Wii game system, Wii controller and five games. The woman said also, an electric scooter was taken from her garage. The loss was estimated at $500.

Two people suffered possible, unknown injuries during a collision Tuesday morning, in Creston, but authorities say the drivers of both vehicles were not transported to the hospital. Officials say a 1992 Chevy pickup driven by 24-year old Bruce Allen Yenzer, of Creston, was traveling north on Cedar Street at around 7:55-a.m., at the same time a 2006 Saturn driven by 79-year old Geraldine Lavonne Ray, of Orient, was traveling southbound.

As Ray was making a left turn into a driveway, her car was hit head-on by the pickup. The collision caused the pickup to spin 180-degrees before it came to rest facing north. The car went off the road and hit a power pole. The vehicles sustained a total of $7,500 damage. Police cited Ray for Failure to Yield upon making a left turn.

A traffic stop early this (Wednesday) morning in Montgomery County resulted in a man’s arrest on drug and other charges. Sheriff’s officials say 57-year old John Richard Mullenix, of Red Oak, faces charges that include Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Deliver, Unlawful Possession of Prescription Medications, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, carrying weapons and OWI/drugged – 1st offense.

His arrest followed a traffic stop for speeding just before 2-a.m. in the 2100 block of Highway 34. Mullenix was being held in the Montgomery County Jail on $5,000 cash bond.

Sheriff’s deputies were assisted at the scene by the Montgomery County K9 unit and Red Oak Police.

The Atlantic Area Chamber of Commerce says everyone is invited to come out and help Salute Gymnastics celebrate new, future location this (Wednesday) evening. Their new facility is located at 314 Walnut Street, in Atlantic, where a ground breaking ceremony is set to take place at 5:30-p.m.

The new building will be 7,500 square feet and will feature a pro shop, kitchenette, parent viewing area, and plenty of space for all of their gymnastic equipment. Henningsen Construction will begin putting the footings in place on August 17th, and the project is expected to be completed in 2-to 3-months.

The American Red Cross says it’s  facing a looming shortage of the blood types most needed by patients and is calling on eligible donors with O negative, B negative and A negative blood to give now to prevent an emergency situation. Blood donation appointments can be quickly and easily scheduled by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting redcrossblood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS.

Overall blood donations in the Red Cross Midwest Blood Services Region have been approximately 930 fewer pints per month in June and July this year than the previous 10 months of the year. When demand for the most needed types begins to outpace donations, the Red Cross alerts donors to help restock the shelves.

Type O negative is the universal blood type and can be transfused to patients with any blood type. Types B negative and A negative can be transfused to Rh positive or negative patients. Eligible donors are encouraged to donate double red cells – a process where two units of red cells are collected while most of the plasma and platelets are returned to the donor – where available.

Individuals who donated blood earlier this summer may be eligible to donate again.

GRINNELL, Iowa (AP) – Federal officials have confirmed that they’re investigating Grinnell College’s handling of sexual assault cases. Grinnell spokesman Jim Reische told The Des Moines Register that the federal investigations are supposed to be completed in 180 days. But he says that because of the national jump in complaints, the average time has stretched to about four years.

Earlier this year Grinnell College President Raynard Kington asked the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights to determine whether the college complied with Title IX, the federal law that bars sex discrimination in education, in addressing cases at Grinnell.

A woman who has been arrested numerous times in Red Oak, was taken into custody again Tuesday evening. Red Oak Police report 45-year old Shelby JoAnn Olivares, of Red Oak, was arrested in the 500 block of E. Market Street at around 6-p.m. , for Contempt of Court/Failure to Appear on an original charge of Criminal Mischief. Olivares was being held in the Montgomery County Jail on $1,000 cash bond.
