The Glenwood Police Department reports four arrests on Wednesday, August 19th.

Jamie Harless, 21, of Omaha, NE was arrested for Theft of
a motor vehicle, bond set at $10.000 cash or surety

Harold Rudduck, 36, of Glenwood was arrested for
Disorderly conduct, bond set at $300 cash or surety

Madison Bendt, 19, of Glenwood was arrested for
Theft 5th, bond set at $300 cash or surety

Michael Gaver, 35, of Glenwood was arrested for
Disorderly conduct, bond set at $300 cash or surety

Harlan arrest report

The Harlan Police Department released details on three arrests in the past week.

On Friday, August 14th Harlan Police arrested 16-year-old Tyler Wollaston of Harlan  when officers found him to be in the possession of drug equipment. Wollaston was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. The case will be transferred to Juvenile Court.

On Monday, August 17th Officers arrested 23-year-old Michael Tremayne of Harlan following a traffic stop. Tremayne was charged with Driving Under Suspension and was transported to the Shelby County Jail.

On Tuesday, August 18th Harlan police were called to a domestic disturbance in the 2100 block of Lincoln Avenue.  After investigation Officers arrested 29-year-old Eugene Cardine of Harlan and charged him with Domestic Abuse Assault for allegedly striking and choking Kimberlee Green of Harlan.  Cardine was also charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Prohibited Acts.  He was booked into the Shelby County Jail.

Creston Police report 3 overnight arrests

The Creston Police Department reports three arrests overnight.

At 7:03pm Wednesday 25-year-old Brooke Marie Carter of Creston was arrested in Polk County on a Union County Warrant for Violation of Probation. She is being held in the Ringgold County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.

Also on Wednesday at 10:14pm Creston Police arrested 36-year-old Lela Churchwell at her residence on charges of Disorderly Conduct and Public Intoxication 3rd or Subsequent offense. She is also being held in the Ringgold County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.

Early this Thursday morning at 2:16am Creston Police arrested 22-year-old Haley Vandel of Creston in the 200 block of North Maple Street on charges of Driving While Barred and Possession of a Controlled Substance.  She was released from the Union County Jail on a $2,000 bond.

Atlantic City Council approves trail grant and hears proposed pay raise

The Atlantic City Council met Wednesday evening in the Council Chambers at City Hall.

As expected the council approved a resolution “Endorsing the use of Regional TAP (Transportation Alternatives Program grant) Funds for the Schildberg Recreation Area Lake #2 Biking Trail.” The resolution acknowledges the City endorses the trail project, and that with the assistance of the TAP funds, the construction of the multi-use trail will be completed and remain dedicated to public use, and adequately maintained by the City of Atlantic Parks and Recreation Department.

Also the Personnel and Finance Committee reported on a proposed pay raise for the Mayor and Atlantic City Council. The proposal recommends the Mayor’s pay to increase from $8,000 to $10,000 per year. The proposal also includes an increase from $30 to $40 per meeting for City Council members.  That amount would also include committee meetings, which Council members currently receive $20  per meeting for.

Three readings of an ordinance would be required before an official pay increase decision could be made.  The first of those readings is expected soon.

Bicyclist runs from Red Oak Police

The Red Oak Police Department reports an arrest after stopping a bicyclist early Thursday.  At approximately 12:15am Officers stopped a bicyclist in the 700 block of Washington Street for an infraction.  While officers were talking to the individual he took off running East bound down Washington Street.  25-year-old Patrick John Peirce Jr. of Carter Lake was caught and apprehended in the 1000 block of East Washington Street.  Peirce is being charged with Interference with Official Acts and was taken to the Montgomery County Law Enforcement Center and held on $300 cash bond.

Adair County to implement new software for school elections

Adair County Auditor Mindy Schaefer announced Wednesday the implementation of a program called Precinct Atlas during the upcoming school election. Precinct Atlas is an electronic Poll Book which contains all the registered voters eligible to vote in an election.

Voters will give their name to the election workers, who will be able to look the voter up on a laptop and verify the voter’s information. Voters who have changes in their information or voters that are registering on Election Day will be processed immediately and put in the system while they are at the polling location.

Voters will also have the option to scan their Driver’s License or Non Operators License for the look up and verification process. Schaefer says Precinct Atlas will help election workers with efficiency and accuracy in processing voters prior to giving them a ballot.

The Glenwood Police Department reports an arrest Tuesday.  Officers arrested Mara Hunt (McVay) on a Mills County Warrant for Assault.  Bond was set at $1,000.

Man arrested after threats at Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg Wednesday

Deputies with the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Sidney man that was making threats at Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg on Tuesday.  Hospital staff informed deputies a man was making threats to employees and they decided to go into lockdown until the subject was located.  David Daugherty Jr. of Sidney was found a short time later and arrested for Disorderly Conduct.  He was taken to the Fremont County Jail and held without bond.

Former Iowa teacher takes plea deal in sex exploitation case

TREYNOR, Iowa (AP) – A former teacher has agreed to give up his teaching and coaching licenses as part of a plea deal in his sexual exploitation case involving students.

The Daily Nonpareil reports that Michael Travis pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of assault. He also agreed to surrender the licenses to the Iowa Education Department. He won’t have to register as a sex offender or serve any time in jail.

The newspaper reported that Travis maintained his innocence despite his negotiated plea of guilty. He was arrested in May 2014 on two counts of sexual exploitation by a school employee.

Travis had been an assistant softball coach at Treynor High School and taught elementary school.
