AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Anna Prins scored 19 points, Nikki Moody added 15 and No. 25 Iowa State rolled to a 67-48 victory at Big 12 Conference foe Texas on Wednesday night. Brynn Williamson chipped in 12 points, all from 3-point range, and a team-high seven rebounds for the Cyclones (16-5, 7-4), who shot 49 percent from the floor and were 10 of 24 from beyond the arc. Moody dished out seven assists and had four steals.

Empress Davenport had 13 points for the Longhorns (9-12, 2-8), and Celina Rodrigo and Chassidy Fussell scored 10 apiece. Texas, which entered the game ranked eighth in Division I with a plus-10.9 rebounding margin, was outrebounded 32-31. The Longhorns scored the game’s first basket, but that was their only lead. Texas closed within 25-24 on Fussell’s fast-break layup with 4:27 left before halftime, but Iowa State closed the half on a 14-0 run and cruised from there.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Tyler Brown had 25 points, nine assists and four steals as Illinois State rallied late to defeat Drake 94-86 Wednesday night. Jackie Carmichael added 23 points and John Wilkins had 18 for the Redbirds (14-10, 5-7 Missouri Valley), who have won five of their last six games after starting out 0-6 in conference play. Richard Carter had 17 points and six assists, and Chris Hines scored 16 for Drake (11-12, 5-7), which had defeated the Redbirds 82-77 earlier this year.

Illinois State trailed by 17 points in the first half and didn’t take its first lead until Jon Ekey hit a 3-pointer with 1:44 remaining to put the Redbirds ahead 85-84. That shot came amid 13 straight points by Illinois State that turned an 84-78 deficit into a 91-84 lead with 22 seconds left. Drake led 51-40 at halftime after hitting 9 of 20 3-pointers in the opening period. The Bulldogs finished 12 of 28 beyond the arc.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Ben Brust scored 18 points, including three key free throws in double overtime, as Wisconsin beat Iowa 74-70 Wednesday night. Jared Berggren added 16 points and 14 rebounds for the Badgers (16-7, 7-3 Big Ten), who snapped a three-game losing streak to the Hawkeyes. Mike Gesell led Iowa (14-9, 3-7) with 14 points and Aaron White added 13.

Wisconsin, which has shot less than 62 percent from the foul line this season, converted 13 of 14 free throws in the two overtime periods. With Wisconsin leading 72-68 in the closing seconds, Berggren stepped out of bounds on the inbounds play, giving the ball back to the Hawkeyes. White scored and was fouled, but he missed the free throw. Ryan Evans, who shoots 40 percent from the line, grabbed the rebound, was fouled and converted both attempts to seal the win.

K-State signs touted IWCC QB Waters

Sports

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Once heir apparent to Heisman Trophy finalist Collin Klein, Kansas State quarterback Daniel Sams will face some serious competition thanks to the signing of junior college transfer Jake Waters. Out of all 32 members of the recruiting class announced by Kansas State on Wednesday, Waters might spark the most interest. He directed Iowa Western Community College to a national championship last season, passing for 3,501 yards.

Prior to Waters’ commitment, many had considered Sams the favorite for the starting job in 2013. The addition of Waters makes that much less certain — and that is exactly the way Kansas State coach Bill Snyder wants it.

ISU athletic director removed from son’s game

AMES, Iowa (AP) — A school superintendent says Iowa State University’s athletic director was removed from a high school basketball game after criticizing a referee’s call. Marty Lucas, superintendent for the Colfax-Mingo school district, says Jamie Pollard was asked to leave a game Tuesday night between Colfax-Mingo High School and Gilbert High School. Pollard’s son plays for Gilbert.

Lucas says the referee heard Pollard disagree with a game call during a timeout. The referee asked school officials to remove Pollard. Lucas says Pollard did not yell or use foul language. The incident happened toward the end of the game. Lucas says it was a heated game and Pollard was “a dad being a dad.” Iowa State spokesman Tom Kroeschell confirms Pollard was removed but declined further comment. Colfax-Mingo won 68-55.

Iowa signs 21 to letters of intent

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz never pays much attention to recruiting rankings. That’s a trait that could serve him well this week. The Hawkeyes announced their latest class on Wednesday, a group that recruiting services have rated near the bottom of the Big Ten. The 21-player class is ranked 52nd nationally by both Rivals.com and Scout.com. Rivals has the class slotted eighth in the 12-school league while Scout ranks it 10th.

Those aren’t the kind of numbers likely to entice a fan base that watched Iowa finished last season with six straight losses and a 4-8 record. But coach Kirk Ferentz said he couldn’t tell much difference between this year’s class and last year’s — which was ranked in the top half of the Big Ten. The list of recruits is as follows:

Nathan Bazata, dt, 6-2, 280, Howells (Neb.) High.

Ike Boettger, te, 6-6, 235, Cedar Falls (Iowa) High.

LeShun Daniels, rb, 6-0, 215, Harding (Ohio) High.

Colin Goebel, ol, 6-5, 280, Naperville North (Ill.) High.

Brant Gressel, dt, 6-2, 280, Centreville (Ohio) High

Andre Harris, wr, 6-0, 170, Kirkwood (Mo.) High.

Josey Jewell, lb, 6-2, 200, Decorah (Iowa) High

Anjeus Jones, wr 6-3, 190, South Oak Cliff High, Dallas

John Kenny, lb, 6-2, 215, Carmel (High), Ind.

Desmond King, cb, 5-11, 185, East English Village Prep, Detroit.

Derrick Mitchell, s, 6-1, 190, Vashon High, St. Louis.

Johnathan Parker, rb, 5-11, 180, Christian Brothers High, St. Louis.

Damond Powell, wr, 5-11, 180, Snow (Utah) CC, Ephraim, Utah

Malik Rucker, s, 6-0, 170, Robbinsdale Cooper High, New Hope, Minn.

Nic Shimonek, qb, 6-4, 196, Mildred High, Corsicana, Tex.

Akrum Wadley, rb, 5-11, 170, Weequahic High, Newark, N.J.

Solomon Warfield, s, 6-0, 185, St. Edward High, Lakewood, Ohio.

Sean Welsh, ol, 6-3, 285, Springboro (Ohio) High.

Derrick Willies, wr, 6-4, 205, Rock Island (Ill.) High, Ill.

Jon Wisnieski, te, 6-5, 220, Dowling Catholic High, West Des Moines, Iowa.
