Chiefs backup OL Watkins suspended 4 games

Sports

July 4th, 2014 by Ric Hanson

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Kansas City Chiefs backup offensive lineman Rokevious Watkins has been suspended for four games for undisclosed violations. In a two-sentence news release issued Thursday, the team says the NFL notified it of the suspension. The Chiefs said they would have no further comment on the situation or any aspect of the league’s policies.

Watkins is in his third season in the NFL after playing in one game for St. Louis in 2012 and three for Kansas City last year, including one start. He was picked by St. Louis in the fifth round of the 2012 draft after playing college ball at South Carolina.

Lincecum leads Giants past Cardinals 5-0

Sports

July 2nd, 2014 by Ric Hanson

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Tim Lincecum followed his second career no-hitter with another vintage performance, pitching eight sharp innings to lead the San Francisco Giants past the St. Louis Cardinals 5-0 on Tuesday night.

Lincecum allowed four hits, struck out six and walked two. He worked out of a bases-loaded jam with no outs in the fourth and stayed out of trouble the rest of the way, helping San Francisco snap a four-game losing streak since his latest gem against San Diego.

Pablo Sandoval hit his 100th career homer to cap a three-run fourth, and the Giants scored twice in the fifth to chase Marco Gonzales in the left-hander’s second career start.

Gonzales gave up five runs and seven hits in 4 1-3 innings. St. Louis has lost three straight and four of five.
