MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Frank Kaminsky had 13 points and 11 rebounds, and No. 6 Wisconsin relied on tough defense to rout No. 25 Iowa 82-50 on Tuesday night. Sam Dekker added 17 points and eight boards for the Badgers (17-2, 5-1 Big Ten), who won their second straight since losing starting point guard Traevon Jackson to a foot injury.

Jackson’s replacement, Bronson Koenig, shot 3 of 6 from 3-point range and finished with 13 points. Iowa (13-6, 4-2) trailed by 18 at halftime in its first road loss of the season. Jarrod Uthoff, a Wisconsin transfer, led the Hawkeyes with 12 points.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Daishon Knight scored 20 points, his third straight game of 20 or more, and Reggie Lynch added 13 with nine rebounds as Illinois State defeated Drake 64-56 on Tuesday night. The Redbirds (12-7, 4-3 Missouri Valley Conference) battled through a tight first half to lead 29-27 at the break — grabbing the lead for good on a Bobby Hunter 3-pointer with 2:31 left in the half. Knight added a three-point play 48 seconds before the half.

Drake’s Gary Ricks Jr. and C.J. Rivers hit 3-pointers to cut the gap to 36-35 early in the second half, but Illinois State never trailed after halftime and soon had the lead up to seven points. Rivers and Ricks scored 10 points each to lead Drake (4-15, 1-6).

Lynch blocked three shots to tie Illinois State’s sophomore blocks record with 48, matching Joe Galvin’s 1977-78 mark. Hunter and Tony Wills scored eight each.

Chiefs QB Bray tears ACL; team signs 19 to futures contracts

Sports

January 21st, 2015 by Ric Hanson

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Chiefs announced Tuesday that Tyler Bray has torn the ACL in his left knee, putting his future with the franchise in doubt and creating space for Terrelle Pryor at backup quarterback. Bray spent last season on injured reserve after spraining an ankle in preseason. The move allowed the Chiefs to keep him along with Alex Smith, Chase Daniel and Aaron Murray. Pryor, a former Raiders quarterback, recently agreed to a deal with the Chiefs.

Among the players that Kansas City signed to futures deals was wide receiver Da’Rick Rogers. The former star began his career at Tennessee but transferred to Tennessee Tech after admitting to failing several drug tests. He played for Buffalo and Indianapolis. In five games with the Colts, he had 14 catches for 192 yards.

AMES, Iowa (AP) — Monte Morris hit a floater with 37 seconds left and No. 9 Iowa State held off Kansas State 77-71 on Tuesday night, moving into a tie for first place in the Big 12. Jameel McKay had 15 points off the bench for the Cyclones (14-3, 4-1), who joined No. 11 Kansas atop the league. Iowa State beat Kansas in Ames 86-81 on Saturday.

Kansas State turned it over at mid-court after Morris put the Cyclones ahead 73-69. That miscue allowed Iowa State to seal the game at the line. Nino Williams had a season-high 22 points for Kansas State (11-8, 4-2), whose winning streak was snapped at four games.
