The Harlan Police Department today (Wednesday) report four people were arrested on various charges over the past week, while two other individuals were cited for offenses, and released. On Saturday, 22-year old Brian Green, of Harlan, was taken into custody when officers were called to a disturbance in the pit area of the Shelby County Speedway. Green was brought to the Shelby County Jail, where he was charged with intoxication in public and disorderly conduct. Green was asked earlier to leave the track area and not return and because he had returned he was also charged with trespass.

Last Friday, 44-year old Yosvany Rubio-Solis, of Denison, was taken into custody following a traffic stop. Rubio-Solis was arrested on an active warrant out of Buena Vista County. Rubio-Solis was taken to the Shelby County Jail to await extradition. Rubio-Solis was also cited for speed and passing contrary to highway signs.

On June 4th, 45-year old David Dean Anderson, of Harlan, was arrested on an active Shelby County warrant for delivery of a controlled substance. As a result of the arrest, Anderson was also charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. That same day, 29-year old Marcia Finch, of Harlan, was taken into custody following a traffic stop. Finch was brought to the Shelby County Jail where she was charged with third offense enhanced possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. The driver of the vehicle, 37-year old Jeffrey Simpson, of Harlan, was cited for failure to have a valid driver’s license and was released.

And on June 1st, 34-year old Randy Stolz, of Harlan, was cited with theft 5th degree when an employee at Fareway Food Store observed him allegedly put merchandise into his pocket and attempt to leave without paying for it. Stolz was cited, given a court date, and released.

The Atlantic Police Department reports 29-year old Tad Haskins, of Atlantic, was arrested Monday on a charge of Indecent Contact with a Child. Haskins was booked into the Cass County Jail. And, 38-year old Terry Frazier, of Atlantic, was arrested Tuesday, on charges that include Possession of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Public Intoxication, and Disorderly Conduct. Frazier was also booked into the Cass County Jail.

Other arrests taking place in Atlantic the past couple of days include: 37-year old Charles Sharpback, of Atlantic, who was  charged with OWI/1st offense; 24-year old Benjamin Galles, of Atlantic, who faces Public Intoxication and disorderly conduct charges; 23-year old Rebecca Miller, of Atlantic, who was arrested for Simple Assault; 28-year old Justin Knutsen, of Atlantic, who was taken into custody for Domestic Abuse Assault, and 19-year old Adam Mullins, of Granville, Massachusetts, who was arrested for 5th degree Theft (shoplifting).

With the exception of Mullins and Knutsen, who were cited and released with a court date set, each of the individuals mentioned were booked into the Cass County Jail.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office says a rural Creston man reported last week the theft of three ATV’s owned by him, and a fourth ATV owned by another person, stored on a property located off of Lark Avenue. The four wheeled ATV’s stolen include: a green 2010 Polaris Sportsman 550; a blue 1997 Polaris Express; a green 2005 Polaris Ranger XP-700, and a green 2010 Polaris Sportsman 550-CC. The off-road machines disappeared from the property sometime last week. The loss was estimated at $27,500.

No injuries were reported following a single-vehicle accident Tuesday night, in Page County. The Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened at around 10:50-p.m., in the 2600 block of 290th, or about 2 miles east of College Springs.  The driver, 27-year old Kennith Alan Cline, of Coin, was in a 2004 GMC Envoy, owned by Lula Lewis, also of Coin, and traveling west on 290th, when he lost control of the vehicle. The SUV entered the south ditch and rolled over once, coming to rest on the driver’s side.

Cline was cited for Failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle.

The Page County Sheriff’s Office says a woman who was a passenger in a pickup driven by an Atlantic man, was injured during an accident on a dirt road Tuesday afternoon. Deputies responded to the accident about 9-miles northwest of Clarinda on 130th Street between N and O Avenues, at around 4:40-p.m-p.m.

During the investigation, it was found that 26-year old Jonathan Owen Nelson, of Atlantic, was driving a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 Quad cab pickup westbound on 130th Street. The vehicle is owned by Marna Kay Liddell of Villisca. The portion of 130th Street that the pickup was traveling on was a Level B Minimum maintenance (dirt) road.

The vehicle came upon a portion of the Level B Minimum maintenance road that was deeply rutted from recent rain and vehicle traffic. When the pickup went through the deeply rutted portion, the vehicle bounced violently, throwing the passenger, 20-year old Marna Liddell, of Villisca, into the windshield, causing her to be injured.

Liddell was transported to the Clarinda Regional Health Center by private vehicle to be treated for her injuries.

Two Creston residents and a Bluegrass, Iowa man were arrested on separate charges, Tuesday. According to Creston Police, 34-year old Bobbie Sue Flynn was arrested Tuesday morning at the Union County Law Enforcement Center, on a Union County warrant for Failure to Appear in court on an original charge of Trespassing. She was later related on $300 bond.

And, 19-year old Jacob Davis was arrested at the Union County LEC on a warrant charging him with Unauthorized use of a Credit card (Under $1,000). Davis was later released on $2,000 bond.

Officials said also, 37-year old Norman Olson, of Bluegrass, was arrested on a charge of OWI/1st offense. He was also cited for Failure to provide proof of insurance and leaving the scene of an accident. The man was taken into custody after the car he was driving struck a legally parked pickup truck in the 200 block of N. Pine Street, in Creston.

Olsen left the scene but a witness to the accident reported it to police, who located Olsen’s vehicle as it was traveling west on Montgomery Street. Damage from the collision amounted to at least $1,800. Olsen was being held in the Union County Jail on $1,000 bond.

Police in Council Bluffs say a man was cleaning his pistol Tuesday night when he accidentally shot himself in his lower extremity. The incident happened at around 10-p.m. at 1540 N. Broadway. Officials say 28-year old Christian Burgin told them he thought the gun was unloaded when he pulled the trigger as he was cleaning the weapon

Burgin was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The incident remains under investigation.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) – The Iowa Transportation Commission has voted to direct $286.4 million to finish expanding U.S. Highway 20 to four lanes in northwestern Iowa. The Sioux City Journal reports the commission voted for the fiscal year 2016-2020 plan at their monthly meeting on Tuesday. The expansion will happen on stretches of the highway in Woodbury, Ida and Sac counties.

The work includes $68.3 million for 12 miles in Woodbury County to be done by 2018, $138.1 million for 17 miles in Ida County for 2016 and $80 million for 11 miles in Sac County in 2017. Highway 20 Association President Shirley Phillips said the improvements will boost economic development and improve safety.

The Urbandale Police Department has cancelled an Iowa Amber Alert that was issued early this (Wednesday) morning.

Shortly after issuing the Alert concerning 9-month old Logan Habibovic, of Urbandale, and his father – 33-year old Elvis Habibovic, who was the suspect, Urbandale Police were contacted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol regarding the Alert. On Tuesday evening Missouri authorities located a burned vehicle in a conservation area in Harrison County Missouri. This vehicle matched the description of the one issued in the alert. Missouri authorities state the remains of an adult and infant were located within the vehicle.

The Urbandale Police & Missouri State Highway Patrol believe this vehicle and remains are those sought in the Amber Alert. The Urbandale Police Department is continuing to work with Missouri State Highway Patrol investigators to make positive identifications.
