The Atlantic softball team grabbed two wins over the Creston Panthers on Monday night at the Atlantic Little League Complex.

The Trojans had to edge out the win in game one with a seventh inning run to win 3-2. Maleana Woodward put one in play with the bases loaded and the Panthers threw home for the force out on Ava Rush. Peyton Rice then tried to throw to first to snag Woodward but the throw was a bit off and the catch misplayed by Halle Evans at first and the ball got through. Madison Botos had advanced to third with the contact and was then sent home on the errant throw and slid in safe to secure the Trojan victory. Both teams finished with 7 hits in the contest but 3 errors by the Panthers in that final frame proved to be the difference. Lauren Nicholas reached all three times at the plate and had two hits, including and RBI single in the fourth that tied the game up at 2. Neveah Randall went 2-3 for Creston with a first inning home run to right-center. Olivia Engler had 8 strikeouts in the victory for the Trojans.

The second game went back and forth with some chunk scoring in contrast to the single run trading in the first. Atlantic scored 2 in each the first and second to go up 4-0. Creston answered with 4 in the third to tie the game before Atlantic answered back with 3 in the bottom half of the frame. Creston would tie the game again with three runs in the 4th but that would end their scoring for the night. Atlantic grabbed the lead back with a run scored in the bottom of the 4th. Then added 3 in the fifth and 2 more in the sixth. Kennedy Goergen pitched the first three innings and Engler came on to finish the rest of the way. The Trojans racked up 12 hits with Alyssa Derby leading the way with 2 doubles, 1 RBI, and 2 runs scored. Goergen also had a big RBI double and two runs scored.

Atlantic Head Coach Terry Hinzmann thought their pitchers did a good job of fighting against a dangerous Creston lineup.

Coach Hinzmann also though just giving at-bats a chance was a huge part of both games.

The Trojans improved to 10-1 on the season. They will prepare for a road trip to Harlan on Tuesday, followed by a visit to Lewis Central on Thursday.

Creston falls to 4-7 on the season. They host Clarinda Tuesday before traveling to Shenandoah on Thursday.
