(Des Moines, IA) – The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has released their weekly report listing public beaches/lakes where swimming is NOT recommended, due to high levels of E.Coli, which is an indicator of other potentially harmful bacteria in the water, or algal toxin.
Beaches where swimming is not recommended this week include:
Prairie Rose Beach in Shelby County
Backbone Beach in Delaware County
Beeds Lake Beach in Franklin County
Big Creek Beach in Polk County
Black Hawk Beach in Sac County
Emerson Bay Beach in Dickinson County
Lake Darling Beach in Washington County
Lake of Three Fires Beach in Taylor County
Nine Eagles Beach in Decatur County
North Twin Lake West Beach in Calhoun County
Pine Lake South Beach in Hardin County
The DNR tests 40-some beaches each week between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day weekend. Sampling and testing happen during the week, with the results going online on the AQuIA website Friday mornings.
