“NO Swimming” advisories issued for 10 Iowa beach/lakes

(Des Moines, IA) – The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has released an updated list of public beach/lakes with NO Swimming Advisories in effect for this weekend. Most on this week’s list showed high levels of E.Coli, which is an indicator of other potentially harmful bacteria in the water, or algal toxin.

Beaches where swimming is not recommended this week include:

Prairie Rose Beach in Shelby County

Backbone Beach in Delaware County

Black Hawk Beach in Sac County

Lake Darling Beach in Washington County

Lake of Three Fires Beach in Taylor County

Nine Eagles Beach in Decatur County

North Twin Lake East Beach in Calhoun County

North Twin Lake West Beach in Calhoun County

Pine Lake South Beach in Hardin County

Pleasant Creek Beach in Linn County

The DNR tests 40-some beaches each week between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day weekend. Sampling and testing happen during the week, with the results going online on the AQuIA website Friday mornings.
