IA DNR cautions against swimming at a Taylor County Lake

(Des Moines, IA) – Officials with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources have issued a warning regarding the Lake of Three Fires in Taylor County. Swimming is NOT recommended at the Lake, based on results of a water sample taken June 17th, that officials say exceeded the algal toxin action level.

The DNR’s beach monitoring map also shows lakes deemed that are still suitable for swimming in southwest Iowa, including Viking Lake State Park, Green Valley Beach, Lake Anita Beach and Springbrook Beach. And, although it is still vulnerable to algae toxins, swimming is okay at Prairie Rose State Park Beach.

Information on swimming in Iowa’s waterways is available by calling the DNR’s beach monitoring hotline, 515-725-3434, or by checking the department’s beach monitoring map.
