130th Annual Pottawattamie County Fair begins Wednesday

(Avoca, IA) – The 130th Annual Pottawattamie County Fair begins this Wednesday, July 15th, in Avoca, and continues through the 20th. Each day of the Fair through Sunday, the 4-H & FFA Food Stand will be open to help keep you hydrated and well fed. Most of the activities start Thursday, including the Poultry Show, Wood Carving demonstrations, Livestock Judging, Tethered Hot Air Balloon Rides, and a BBQ Contest.

East Pottawattamie County Extension Director Jill Kadel says there’s no entry fee or charge for parking, but there is a small fee for families to attend the grandstand events. The line-up for the fair hasn’t changed much over last year, she says.

There’s also been some improvements and updates to the fairgrounds itself in preparation for this year’s fair in Avoca. Kading says the tractor pulls Thursday evening are always a big crowd draw.

The ending of the fair on July 20th takes place at 9 a.m., with the Livestock Premium Auction.
