Sports Observation of the Day
I really enjoy following a variety of different sports. A lot of sports I follow are ones that I enjoyed playing or still do play but others I just find entertaining for their competitive nature and atmosphere. Whether it’s on television or I’m attending live I usually am following something nearly year round. I will use this space to post a daily opinion piece on my observations and thoughts of the sports world. I hope you enjoy checking it out!
April 11, 2012:
Tonight the NHL Playoffs get the puck dropped! I’ve always enjoyed hockey but the past few years I have really become a fan of the NHL. The Stanley Cup playoffs start this evening with a couple of games and I am excited to watch how it all plays out this year. It’s amazing to see the kind of effort that is put into the games in the NHL postseason. It’s just so evident how hard these guys play and I think that is how hockey gains new fans so easily this time of year. If you love good competition then it is hard not to relate to these players and hockey takes so much energy to play hard which makes it more impressive.
I personally am a Pittsburgh Penguins fan so I am really excited for their opening round series against their intrastate rival the Philadelphia Flyers, which should be one of the best series in the opening round of the playoffs. Simply put, these two teams really dislike each other. The last week of the season they played a game that ended up in big brawl and coaches even got into a shouting match. This is setting up to be some must see hockey as we wait to see who blows a gasket first. I think the Penguins have a great shot to win the Stanley Cup and they are getting everyone healthy at the right time. Malkin and Crosby are two amazing players to watch and I have a feeling they will really step up and lead the charge but they have plenty of talent support as well.
If you are a hockey fan then enjoy! If you are not, then I recommend that you take in a game or two, I think you’ll be glad you did.
