LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Jose Alvarado scored 19 of his 24 points in the second half and led Georgia Tech to a 75-64 victory over Nebraska in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. It was the second straight win for the Yellow Jackets (2-2), who beat Kentucky 79-62 after home losses to Georgia State and Mercer. Alvarado picked up his fourth foul with 18:25 remaining but returned about four minutes later with the Yellow Jackets trailing 43-39. Alvarado scored 15 points, including three consecutive 3-pointers during a 30-14 stretch, that gave Georgia Tech a 69-57 lead with 2:09 to play. Kobe Webster made six 3-pointers and finished with 20 points for Nebraska (3-2).

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — One of the things that has made Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes so dynamic is his ability to unload a pass to his deep and talented group of wide receivers from seemingly impossible spots. NEW YORK (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs have regained the top spot in the latest AP Pro32 poll. The Chiefs inched up a spot after holding off the Denver Broncos. The New Orleans Saints moved up a place to No. 2. The Pittsburgh Steelers slipped two places from No. 1 after losing to Washington on Monday night. And the Green Bay Packers and Buffalo Bills remained at Nos. 4 and 5, respectively.

(By ADAM HENSLEY Associated Press) – Iowa kicker Keith Duncan’s wild ride of a career is winding down. He was the Hawkeyes’ starting kicker as a freshman, didn’t kick in a game the next two years and then became a consensus All-American with a record-setting season in 2019. He in all likelihood will make his final appearance at Kinnick Stadium on Saturday when No. 25 Wisconsin visits the 19th-ranked Hawkeyes.

Duncan could return for a sixth season if he wanted. The NCAA is granting athletes an additional year of eligibility because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Duncan said he wants to pursue an NFL career.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Jordan Bohannon scored 24 points to lead four players in double figures for No. 3 Iowa, and the Hawkeyes beat No. 16 North Carolina 93-80 in an ACC/Big Ten Challenge game. Luka Garza, who came into the game leading the nation in scoring at 34 points per game, had 16 points and 14 rebounds for the Hawkeyes. It was the 24th double-double of Garza’s career, but he had his streak of 19 consecutive games of scoring 20 points or more snapped.

Bohannon got hot from 3-point range, making 7 of 16 attempts, and converted his only shot from inside the arc. Garrison Brooks scored 17 points to lead five players in double figures for the Tar Heels.

The Atlantic boys basketball team has rescheduled both of their Hawkeye Ten match-ups this week. Tonight’s game on the road against Clarinda has been moved to Friday, February 12th at 7:30 p.m. Friday’s home game against the Creston Panthers has been moved to Saturday, January 23rd at 4:00 p.m.

Both of those nights were scheduled to be varsity doubleheaders with the girls games starting the night. With the absence of the boys games, the girls games have been moved back to the 7:30 p.m. start window following the girls JV games.

Morningside junior forward Sophia Peppers (Exira, Iowa) picked up honors from the Great Plains Athletic Conference for the week of Nov. 30-Dec. 6.

Peppers averaged 23 points, six rebounds, three assists, a blocked shot and a half, and two steals per contest in a well-rounded week that enabled Morningside to run their win streak to five. Her back-to-back 20-point-plus efforts ran a personal string of such outings to three. Peppers was pivotal down the stretch in a win over Dordt Dec. 2, as she hit four straight free throw attempts and tallied eight points in the final seven minutes.
