3-mile Lake Public Meeting set for March 15th

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources will host a public meeting at 6:30 p.m., March 15th, in Room 900 of the Allied Health Building on the Southwest Iowa Community College campus, to discuss the proposed fish renovation of Three-Mile Lake.

Growing yellow bass and common carp populations have reduced game fish populations, decreased water quality and limited fishing activity in Three-Mile Lake.DNR logo

Information will be presented on plans to eliminate yellow bass and common carp as well as future watershed and in-lake improvements to further improve the lake’s water quality and recreation opportunities.

3 female teens arrested for assault in Creston

Police in Creston say three teens were arrested Monday morning on assault charges. 16-year old Heaven Jordan, of Creston and 17-year old’s Kimberly Albrechtsen, of Afton and Deserae Osterhout, of Creston, were taken into custody at around 9:24-a.m. on Simple Assault charges. The girls were referred to Juvenile Authorities and then released to the custody of their parent or parents.

The Creston P-D says also, 32-year old Clarke Howe, of Creston, was arrested Monday afternoon on a Union County warrant for Violation of Probation on an original charge of OWI/2nd offense. Howe was being held in the Union County Jail while awaiting a bond hearing.

And, 32-year old Sean Noel, of Creston, was arrested early this (Tuesday) morning, for Eluding and Driving While Suspended. He was being held in the Union County Jail on $1,000 bond.

2 arrests in Mills County last week

The Mills County Sheriff’s Office reported on Monday, that two people were arrested Friday on separate charges. 32-year old Chad Edward Rapier, of Council Bluffs, was arrested at around 2:30-p.m. at the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office, on a warrant for Failure to Appear on a Driving While Barred, charge. Bond was set at $2,000.

And, at around 6:50-p.m. Friday, Deputies in Mills County arrested 26-year old Heather Nicole Martin, of Glenwood at the Mills County Sheriff’s Office, on a warrant for Used or Expired Drug Tax Stamp, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug paraphernalia, Child Endangerment, and Gathering where marijuana is used. Her bond was set at $13,000.

Red Oak man arrested for Trespassing Mon. night

A Red Oak man was arrested late Monday night on a charge of Trespass, after being found in the 400 block of E. Washington Street. 29-year old Benjamin William Hrabik was taken into custody just before midnight. He was being held in the Montgomery County Jail on a $300 cash bond.

(Update) Arrest made in fatal Bluffs shooting

An arrest has been made in connection with a fatal shooting Monday evening, in Council Bluffs. Authorities say 22-year old Wesley W Correa-Carmenaty, of Council Bluffs, faces a charge of 1st degree Murder, one count of Attempted Murder, and one count of Robbery in the 1st degree.  He remains held in the Pottawattamie County Jail.

Authorities say his arrest followed an investigation that began with Bluffs Police were called to 116 Glen Avenue, Apt. #3, at around 6:30-p.m. Monday, for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival officers found 22-year old Anthony J. Walker, of Council Bluffs, dead from a gunshot wound to his upper chest. Officers were also advised of a male subject, identified as 32-year old Patrick Schultz, of Council Bluffs, was transported by private vehicle to Mercy Hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to his upper left arm. He was reported to be in stable condition, with non-life threatening injuries.

While enroute to Glen Ave, officers located a possible suspect vehicle, a Black Chev Impala, and attempted to stop it. They were able to get the car stopped at the corner of Bluff and Pierce Street. Officers stated that the driver, identified as Wesley Correa, threw two guns out of the window prior to being stopped. The guns were recovered by officers. One of the weapons was actually a BB pistol, the other a Hi-Point 40 caliber handgun.

Correa was interviewed by Detectives and upon the conclusion of this interview was booked into corrections on the charges mentioned.

Stolen vehicle pursuit in Council Bluffs

A van driven by two white males was involved in a pursuit early this (Tuesday) morning, in Council Bluffs. Police say officers located the red Ford Van with Iowa license plates CKT 254 at around 12:36-a.m., in the area of Park Avenue and E. Pierce Street. When officers tried to stop the van, it continued south and east to the South Expressway. The vehicle then continued south to Interstate 80 before heading west, into Nebraska.

Bluffs Police terminated the pursuit at the State line. Officers are following-up on leads in the investigation, in an attempt to identify the driver of the vehicle.

Argument leads to rollover accident & arrest in Council Bluffs

A woman who was driving her allegedly intoxicated boyfriend home late Monday night, ended-up rolling her vehicle, after the couple got into an argument and the boyfriend tried to grab the steering wheel. Council Bluffs Police say 21-year old Brandon Griffeth-Mount, of Council Bluffs, was subsequently charged with Aggravated Domestic Abuse and Child Endangerment, because his girlfriend is six-months pregnant with his child.

Authorities say the unidentified woman and Griffeth-Mount were traveling westbound on Interstate 80 at around 10:30-p.m., when he grabbed the steering wheel from the passenger side of the vehicle. His actions caused the vehicle to veer off the road and slide sideways before rolling over into a ditch. The driver suffered a minor knee injury during the accident. She was transported to Mercy Hospital, treated and released.

Bluffs woman arrested after found passed out in a stolen vehicle

Police in Council Bluffs arrested a woman early this (Tuesday) morning, after finding her passed out in a stolen vehicle. Authorities say 31-year old Amber Coulter, of Council Bluffs, faces a charge of Theft in the 2nd degree, and was being held in the Pottawattamie County Jail.

Her arrest occurred after officers were called to 901 N. 35th Street in Council Bluffs, at around 2:15-a.m., for a female passed out in a vehicle. Police who found Coulter in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, noticed that the ignition was damaged and that the license plates displayed did not belong to the vehicle.

After the officers woke Coulter up, she denied stealing the vehicle, and claimed instead that she had borrowed it from a friend.

Stolen Lorimor Fire Truck found in eastern Iowa

The Union County Sheriff’s Office says they were notified late Monday afternoon, that Cedar Rapids Police recovered a fire truck stolen from the Lorimor Fire Department late last week. The vehicle was unoccupied when it was recovered. No further details were provided.

The 2004 Ford F-350 Super Duty Fire Truck was a grass/field fire unit. The theft was reported Friday afternoon. The truck and its equipment was valued at $15,000.

Red Oak man arrested for simple assault Monday evening

Police in Red Oak arrested a man Monday evening on a charge of Simple Assault. 45-year old Ricky Allen Baker, of Red Oak, was taken into custody at around 5:35-p.m. in the 200 block of N. 2nd Street. Baker was brought to the Montgomery County Jail and held on a $300 cash bond.
