The month of November, in Atlantic, was much colder and more dry than normal. Data compiled at the KJAN studios (the official National Weather Service reporting site for Atlantic), show the Average High last month was 40.1 degrees, and the Average Low was 19.9. That’s 6.2 degrees cooler than the norm for the High, and 6.6 degrees colder than normal. Precipitation for the month (including rain and melted snow), amounted to 1.28 inches, which was 57-hundredths (or nearly six-tenths) of an inch below average. We received a total of Seven-tenths (.7”) an inch of snow in November.

In December, the Average High is 32.9 degrees, while the Average Low is 14.4. Precipitation during the month, typically amounts to 1.11 inches. Check back in January to see how we measured-up against the norms.

Last year on this date our High was 64 and the Low was 23. The record High in Atlantic on this date was 64 in 2017. The Record Low was -13 in 1919.

Snow continues falling in Nebraska, Iowa on Sunday

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Snow continues to fall across much of Nebraska and western Iowa. The National Weather Service says several more inches of snow are expected to fall Sunday on parts of the two states. By the time the storm is finished Monday morning, 5-to-8 inches of snow total are expected in parts of eastern Nebraska and western Iowa.

Roughly 5 inches of snow had fallen in the Omaha area by Sunday morning. Across the river, 7 inches of snow was reported in Council Bluffs, Iowa. In north-central Nebraska, as much as 14 inches of snow was reported in Cherry County.

Today: Snow, mainly before 2pm. Temperature falling to around 29 by 5pm. Breezy, with a north wind 15 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Tonight: Snow likely, mainly before 11pm. Cloudy, with a low around 23. North wind 11 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Monday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 27. North wind 9 to 11 mph.

Tuesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 24.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 29.

Yesterday’s High in Atlantic was 37. Our Low this morning 3. We received 1.6 inches of snow over the 24-hour period ending at 7-a.m. Today. The rain and melted snow amounted to 1.01 inches liquid precipitation. Last year on this date our High was 61 and the Low was 21. The record High in Atlantic on this date was 63 in 1995. The Record Low was -10 in 1987.

Wintry storm likely to make Nebraska, Iowa travel dangerous

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Meteorologists say heavy snowfall atop icy roadways and blowing snow could make travel exceptionally hazardous over the weekend in northern Nebraska and much of northern Iowa. The National Weather Service said Friday in winter storm warnings that up to 16 inches (41 centimeters) of snow could be dumped in northern Nebraska with lesser amounts to the south, where higher temperatures are expected as the wintry storm passes to the east.

The Iowa warnings say as much as 7 inches is expected in Sioux City, with lesser amounts to the east and south. Rain, freezing drizzle or sleet is expected to precede any snow. Wind gusts of up to 40 mph are forecast in parts of both states.

The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a Dense Fog Advisory, which is in effect until 9 AM CST this morning. (And until 10-a.m. for the far west/s.w. counties)

* VISIBILITY…less than 1/4 mile

* IMPACTS…Slick, frosty patches can be expected on roads, bridges and sidewalks due to fog deposits freezing on surfaces. This could create difficult driving conditions at times and will impact the morning commute. Slow down in the fog!

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A Dense Fog Advisory means visibilities will frequently be reduced to less than one quarter mile. If driving, slow down, use your headlights, and leave plenty of distance ahead of you.
