The Johnson-Brock Eagles travelled to Elk Horn to face the Exira-EHK Spartans on Saturday afternoon in a game that was rescheduled after weather cancelled their meeting at the MAC Shootout in Council Bluffs. After a slow start the Eagles used a strong second and third quarters to pull away and beat the Spartans 73-61.  Exira-EHK got off to an early lead and had a four point advantage after one but the Eagles would roar back with a three point barrage in the second quarter to lead by as many as nine before the Spartans inched closer at the half 37-34. Johnson-Brock then outscored the Spartans 17-10 in the third quarter to give them a comfortable lead down the stretch.

The game was originally scheduled to be played as part of the Jennie Ed Sports Med MAC Shootout in Council Bluffs but icy weather forced the cancellation of the end of that event.  The two schools worked out the make-up meeting.

Ty Hahn led Johsnon-Brock with 23 points and Trey Stutheit dropped in 14 for the Eagles. They came into the game 9-4 on the season and of course the cross-state battle doesn’t impact either teams records for state purposes.

The Spartans were led by Sophomore guard Cole Burmeister with 20 points and Senior Drew Buckholdt had 15.  The Spartans record coming into the meeting was 10-3. The Spartans will next face CAM at home on Monday.

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) – Deonte Burton scored a career high 31 points, and Iowa State rallied to beat Oklahoma 92-87 in double overtime on Saturday afternoon. Naz Mitrou-Long scored 20 points and Monte Morris added 19 for the Cyclones (12-6, 4-3 Big 12), who overcame a 19-point deficit in the first half to snap a two-game losing skid.

Jordan Woodard scored all 21 of his points after halftime, Kameron McGusty scored 19 points and Kristian Doolittle added 15 points and a career-high 15 rebounds for the Sooners (8-10, 2-5), who were coming off an overtime win over No. 7 West Virginia on Wednesday.

Oklahoma ran out to a 14-2 lead to start the game and led 28-9 before Iowa State went on a 10-0 run to close the gap. The Cyclones led 30-29 at halftime, and the teams traded leads the rest of the way.

UP NEXT: Iowa State hosts Kansas State on Tuesday. The Wildcats had been on a skid before getting a win at Oklahoma State on Wednesday. Oklahoma plays at Texas on Monday. The Longhorns are on a 5-game losing streak.

The AHSTW Vikings boys basketball team put on a great performance at Audubon Friday night with a 76-54 win. After a close back and forth game for much of the first half the Vikings put on a late second quarter run to lead 36-26 at the break. The Vikings then blew the game open with a 24 point third quarter to take a 23 point lead and cruise to the win.

RJ Harris had a huge night for the Vikings dropping in 24 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and taking 3 steals. Blaine Lees had a big impact in the paint for the Vikings with 18 points. Rhett Welsh also dropped home 16 for the now 13-1 Vikings. Next up AHSTW will try to avenge their only loss of the season with a home meeting against Logan-Magnolia.

Audubon was led in the loss by Josh Lange with 15 points and Tyler Reibhoff with 14.  The Wheelers are now 8-4 on the season and will next face Treynor on Tuesday night.

The Audubon Wheelers girls basketball team jumped out to an early 8-0 lead over AHSTW on Friday night and rode away to a 49-31 win.  The Wheelers lead 14-8 at the end of the first quarter and pushed the lead to nine by halftime.  Audubon then used free throws to put the game out of reach in the third with a 37-21 lead.

Sydney Obermeier was Audubon’s leading scorer on the night with 16 points. Claire Olsen had 11 first half points on her way to 15 for the game.  The Wheelers improve to 8-4 with the win and will next face a tough Treynor team on Tuesday night.

AHSTW was led in the loss by Kinsey Sheffler with 12 points as they fall to 5-9 on the season. Next up for the Lady Vikes is a home game against Logan-Magnolia on Tuesday.
