Atlantic travels to Red Oak for 3A Girls Regional Semifinal tonight on KJAN

Trojan LogoThe Atlantic girls basketball team hits the road tonight for a Class 3A Region 8 Semifinal against the Red Oak Tigers and we’ll have coverage on KJAN. The Trojans come in with a record of 9-13 on the year and picked up a 58-14 win over Clarinda in the Quarterfinals on Saturday. Red Oak is 19-3 on the season and defeated Shenandoah 68-55 in the Quarters. The Tigers came in to the postseason ranked 4th in the final Class 3A poll.

Red Oak won both regular season meetings by a wide margin. The Tigers won 56-41 on January 21st in Atlantic. They won February 4th in Red Oak 66-31. The Tigers’ leading scorer Sophie Walker got injured in that second meeting with the Trojans and has been out since. She was averaging 15 points per game and led the team with 82 assists and 23 blocks. The Tigers have a number of other strong weapons though with two others averaging in double figures. Chloe Johnson has dropped in 14 points per game and Ellie Rengstorf has added 12 per contest. The Tigers are averaging 60 points per game as a team.

Atlantic has been led by Haley Rasmussen’s 17 points per game and 12 per outing from McKenzie Waters. The Trojans are averaging 52 points per game as a team.
