KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt made things look easy the first five weeks of the season. Then came the next seven. But Hunt kept his head down and kept working, and on Sunday he became the first Chiefs rookie to eclipse 1,000 yards rushing in a season. Not only did he get back on track, so did his team, picking up a crucial AFC West win.

AMES, Iowa (AP) — Lindell Wigginton has become a key player for Iowa State. Wigginton averaged 22.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists in his last four games, and he was just named the Big 12’s Newcomer of the Week. The Cyclones have won seven straight games heading into Saturday’s game against Northern Iowa.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Jordan Murphy posted his 12th straight double-double to start the season with 24 points and 18 rebounds, and Minnesota held off Drake 68-67. Amir Coffey added 16 points – all in the second half – and Nate Mason scored 12 for Minnesota (9-3).

NEW YORK (AP) — Veterans Joe Thomas, Antonio Gates and Vernon Davis are among eight finalist for the NFL’s Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award. Also announced as finalists are Luke Kuechly, Haloti Ngata, Joe Staley, Josh McCown and Alex Smith.

COEBURN, Va. (AP) — Tracy Stallard, the pitcher who gave up Roger Maris’ record 61st home run in 1961, has died at 80. He died Wednesday in Kingsport, Tennessee, and his funeral was Sunday in Coeburn, Virginia. Stallard was on the mound for Boston when Maris broke the single-season record that Babe Ruth had held since 1927. The record stayed until 1998. Stallard also pitched for the New York Mets and St. Louis.
