Atlantic City Council to set public hearing for voluntary annexation

News

February 3rd, 2016 by Ric Hanson

The Atlantic City Council this (Wednesday) evening, will act on setting the date for a public hearing on a Resolution that would approve or deny the Voluntary Annexation of a property at 56988 635th Street (Outfitters Plus). The hearing will likely be set for 5:30-p.m. March 2nd. Tonight’s meeting at City Hall, also begins at 5:30-p.m.

The property in question is located immediately north of the East Side Business Park, at the farthest eastern border of Atlantic’s political boundary. City Administrator John Lund says when the City annexed land for the East Side Business Park, consideration was given to the property mentioned to join in the annexation, but the owners chose not to do so. At that time, the property had its own sewer system, but Lund says it’s his understanding that system is failing, and the owners now want to connect to the City sewer network.

If City leaders do approve the voluntary annexation, Lund says some property east of 56988 635th Street may prove to be an option for further annexation. It would also mean the City could collect the extra penny sales tax for both the land in question and any future, adjacent annexation.

In other business, the Council is expected to approve a Resolution accepting work for the 2015 Street Improvements to close-out the contract for all of the street projects completed over the summer, that were funded through 2015 Local Option Sales Tax revenue bonds. The final contract price was 1-million, 25-thousand 144-dollars and 69-cents. ($1,025144.69).
