Gesell named Big Ten Conference Player of the Week

The Big Ten Conference announced their weekly awards on Monday and Iowa Senior Point Guard Mike Gesell earned his first career Player of the Week Honor. Gesell earned the honor with a 22 point and 10 assist effort in a win over Nebraska.  The Hawkeyes will next face Michigan State on Thursday night with a 5:00pm pregame on KJAN.

• Posted his first career double-double with 22 points and 10 assists in the Hawkeyes’ win over Nebraska
• Converted 5-of-7 field goals and 11-of-13 free throws
• Scored 19 points and handed out seven assists in the second half
• Has dished out 10 or more assists in three games this season, the most by an Iowa player since Jeff Horner in the 2005-06 campaign
• Currently ranks second in the Big Ten with 6.9 assists per game
• Earns his first career Player of the Week honor
