DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Police say a shooting in central Des Moines has left a 22-year-old man dead. Investigators say officers were called to the 1200 block of Sampson Street around 9:30 p.m. Friday for reports of a shooting. When they arrived they found Trenton Washington of Des Moines fatally wounded near a house.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) — Some Sioux City leaders are working to address a growing number of homeless people living and panhandling on the northwestern Iowa city’s streets. Police Chief Doug Young tells the Sioux City Journal that the rise of homelessness, panhandling and public intoxication has caused growing concern among businesses, police and city government.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — Some eastern Iowa grocery shoppers who made a credit card purchase last week were double-billed because of a software glitch. Cedar Rapids television station KCRG reports that the double billing happened between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. August 28th. Not every Hy-Vee food store transaction during that time resulted in duplicate charges, the company said. Atlanta-based NCR Connected Payments says the glitch also occurred in other places around the country.

CAMDENTON, Mo. (AP) — Four people from Iowa have suffered serious injuries after their motorboat struck the shore of the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. The Missouri State Highway Patrol says three people from Cedar Rapids and a fourth person from Des Moines were thrown from the runabout.
