AREA COUNTIES: AUDUBON-GUTHRIE-DALLASCASS-ADAIR-MADISONMILLS-MONTGOMERY-FREMONT-PAGEADAMS-UNIONTAYLOR-RINGGOLD

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN DES MOINES HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD WATCH UNTIL 10 AM CDT THURSDAY

* SUCCESSIVE ROUNDS OF THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED ACROSS SOUTHERN IOWA DURING THE EARLY MORNING HOURS OF THURSDAY. THESE STORMS WILL HAVE VERY HIGH RAINFALL RATES FROM TIME TO TIME WHICH MAY LEAD TO FLASH FLOODING.

IN ADDITION…THE INITIAL ROUNDS OF THUNDERSTORMS MAY SATURATE THE GROUND WITH SUBSEQUENT THUNDERSTORMS ALSO PRODUCING FLASH FLOODING.

* BE ESPECIALLY AWARE AT NIGHT IF FLASH FLOODING IS OCCURRING. MOST DEATHS FROM FLASH FLOODING OCCUR AT NIGHT.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT LEAD TO FLASH FLOODING. FLASH FLOODING IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS BE ISSUED.
