Police in Council Bluffs say two people were injured in a wreck involving two semi trucks Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 80. Authorities told The Daily NonPareil the semis wrecked near the split with southbound I-29 near the Madison Avenue shortly after 2 p.m.

Officials said 50-year old Randy Baumfalk, of Hickman, Neb., was driving a 2007 Kenworth tractor trailer, and 45-year old Eric Payton, of Philadelphia, Pa., was driving a 2014 International tractor trailer. Police said both trucks were westbound on I-80 when traffic started to slow and pick back up intermittently as snow fell. Baumfalk’s Kenworth hit Payton’s International from behind.

Council Bluffs Rescue transported Payton and a passenger in his truck, 50-year-old Sherrard McKnight of Raleigh, N.C. to CHI Health Mercy Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
