SOSUA, Dominican Republic (AP) — Thousands of people in the Dominican Republic attended the burial of former St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Oscar Taveras. Among those at the funeral Tuesday was Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak and manager Mike Matheny.

The 22-year-old slugger was considered one of baseball’s top prospects. Taveras hit .239 with three homers and 22 RBIs in 80 games in his only season in the majors. Taveras died Sunday after authorities say he lost control of his 2014 Chevrolet Camaro. His girlfriend also was killed in the crash.
