Jurors in the case of a Pottawattamie County man accused of killing a rural Cass County woman, will hear opening statements in less than two weeks. The Daily NonPareil reports the trial for Robert A. Reynolds Jr. is scheduled to begin on July 22nd. The 63-year old has plead not guilty to a charge of first-degree murder in connection to the shooting death of 64-year old Patricia Kinkade-Dorsey.

Prosecutors and authorities say on April 8th, Reynolds allegedly shot Kinkade-Dorsey. During an interview with law enforcement, Reynolds allegedly admitted he and Kinkade-Dorsey had a verbal dispute inside his residence, and that he then left the area to locate a firearm which he allegedly used to fatally shoot Kinkade-Dorsey. Sheriff’s Lt. Dwayne Riche said some kind of disturbance involving alcohol preceded the shooting.

When deputies arrived Reynolds was uncooperative and a brief standoff ensued, ending when the suspect granted authorities access to the home. The Sheriff’s Department said the weapon used in the shooting was a semiautomatic handgun. Reynolds allegedly told deputies that Kinkade-Dorsey was not armed.

The trial, originally set to begin June 8th, has been moved to July 22 and will take place at the Pottawattamie County Courthouse. Reynolds remains held without bond at the Pottawattamie County Jail. The suspect pleaded not guilty in May.
