BOSTON (AP) – Boston officials are asking people to take public transportation to World Series games between the Red Sox and the St. Louis Cardinals.  Mayor Tom Menino says he’s asking Red Sox fans to be responsible and respectful while cheering on the team. He’s also asking everyone to wear red on Wednesday to support the players.

Police Superintendent Daniel Linskey says Boston police have already met with bar owners and will meet with college and university officials to talk about curbing underage drinking and keeping students safe. He says there will be enhanced police presence for the first two games and everyone will be working if there is a clinching game in Boston.

Sports championship celebrations in Boston in the past decade have resulted in violence and even death.
