DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – What should Iowa do with the extra money sitting in the state’s bank accounts? It’s a key point of debate in ongoing budget negotiations as GOP Governor Terry Branstad, House Republicans and Senate Democrats push different ideas for dealing with a surplus estimated at more than $800 million. If lawmakers can’t reach a deal, as has happened in the past, the money could just stay put for some time.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Des Moines police have identified the man found dead with a gunshot wound in an apartment in the city’s River Bend area. Police said yesterday that officers were called to a shooting in an apartment at 1:24 a.m. Sunday. The victim has been identified as 19-year-old Anthony Moss of Chicago, Illinois.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – A second shooting on the same day in Des Moines has left a man critically wounded. Police are investigating the shooting that happened around 11:45 a.m. yesterday. After gunfire was reported, officers found a 20-year-old man behind an apartment building near Interstate 235 in central Des Moines on Sunday. The shooting victim’s name wasn’t immediately released.

IDA GROVE, Iowa (AP) – The collapse of a downtown building left quite a mess in the northwest Iowa town of Ida Grove. Assistant Fire Chief Scott Van Dusen says the vacant building on 2nd Street started to collapse Saturday when a side wall caved in around 8:30 p.m.
