HONEY CREEK, Iowa (AP) – A mother and daughter escaped serious injury after their house went up in flames in Pottawattamie County.

The Council Bluffs Daily Nonpareil reports that the fire was reported early Friday morning in Honey Creek.

Pottawattamie County Sheriff Jeff Danker says the fire was initially reported as a garage fire, but the flames quickly spread to the house and a camper on the property.

The 31-year-old mother says she was watching TV when she heard a noise, looked out the window and saw flames. She and her 10-year-old daughter managed to escape, but were taken to a hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

The house, garage and camper were destroyed.
