AMES, Iowa – Iowa State head men’s basketball coach Fred Hoiberg has inspired many people with his work ethic and success in all areas of his career. This morning, Hoiberg was lauded for his outstanding character as a role model by receiving the 2013 Robert D. Ray Pillar of Character Award.

Governor Robert Ray announced this year’s recipient at a press conference at the Sukup Basketball Complex in Ames today. Hoiberg will accept the Ray Award on April 19, 2013 at Character Counts in Iowa’s All-Star Evening in West Des Moines. “This ranks up there with the awards I have received,” Hoiberg said. “It’s great to be known as an athlete, but it’s even a better honor to be recognized as a great role model. I want to thank Governor Ray and everyone associated with this award. It is a great honor.”
