CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — Katie Beckett, whose struggles brought landmark changes allowing children with disabilities to live at home, has died in Cedar Rapids. Her mother, Julie Beckett, says she died on Friday. She was 34. Her mother says she recently suffered digestive problems.

DALLAS CENTER, Iowa (AP) — Authorities are investigating the death of a man who was hit while riding a bicycle near Adel in central Iowa. The body of 67-year-old Edward Giedraitis was found along a road Sunday morning. Investigators believe the Dallas Center man was hit sometime after 10 p.m. on Saturday.

FREDERICKSBURG, Iowa (AP) — There’s another bear sighting in northeast Iowa. The Chickasaw County sheriff’s office says a black bear was spotted yesterday in some woods near a golf course near Fredericksburg. On Friday, a black bear showed up just north of West Union, triggering local schools to keep students inside. West Union is about 20 miles east Fredericksburg.

ROCK VALLEY, Iowa (AP) — No injuries were reported in a fire at a group home for people with disabilities near Rock Valley in northwest Iowa. The Sioux County sheriff’s office say part of a building at the Hope Haven Niessink Home was damaged in the fire that broke out yesterday.
